about Finding Our Nature
The old way of doing therapy has to change. Traditional methods are ineffective at times and leave clients frustrated. Finding Our Nature is dedicated to breaking the mold.
Therapy should not have to be indefinite. There needs to be a target...
If the aim of therapy is Growth how are we to determine which setting gives the "best" outcomes? There are so many different levels of care how do you know which one is right for you? Which method or modality is the best fit for you? There's always so many questions and even more opinions on the matter.
Therapy, treatment, and coaching can sometimes feel like it is on a never ending repeating loop...We've seen it play out a few ways: Clients from intensive treatment settings transition to another setting that provides little or no therapeutic support; often they wind up right back in treatment. Clients who attend outpatient therapy regularly often can not say what they were working on in therapy; they say that they "just go" because "isn't therapy always good?" In other settings, the amount of time is limited and the purpose and intensity is focused which brings major strides in a directional shift...but then there's no follow-up.
Blending the various approaches made sense.
We have found that this three-fold approach encourages engagement: 1) being intentional with focused time in therapy, 2) giving space to demonstrate application and growth, and then 3) digging in again to allow for the journey to continue in earnest.
Making the best use of our time together is imperative and we will be focused on identifying the things you would like to work on or address in order of importance to you. After each month off we will assess how things went and continue forward with the same priorities or determine where we want to shift our focus.
We keep the same rotation of 3 months actively meeting for sessions, 1 month for Reflection typically with no formal sessions dependent on when you contract for our services. Reflection Months are April, August, and December.

When I came across experiential therapy I knew this "back door" approach would be the backbone of my process with students. Talking & listening are great, but only if you are moving forward to initiate change.
Change is a culmination of information learned and then translated into our lived experience through intentionally actioning on what we learn. There are so many opportunities for growth and I love looking for personal opportunities to do so as well as helping the students I work with do the same.
I am most focused on building my knowledge base and investigating the different approaches utilized for many areas of struggle. These are a few I have developed specific professional skills around:
Having worked in every level of care, I am familiar with your experience of navigating the resources available on your mental health journey. My heart is in anything that allows for Experiential Therapy to be utilized, focusing on equine and wilderness therapy specifically. Thus, the model I practice emphasizes that in our meeting spaces and methods used.
All my life I have been an avid reader and horse lover. I enjoy staying active and usually that looks like playing soccer, hiking, running, camping, and generally exploring outdoors with my partner, friends, family, and most especially my dog! Pre-pandemic I did a lot of travel to expand my paradigm and enrich my life experience. I look forward to being able to add that back in!
